NEW YORK, March 1, 2018 -- Results of a Workplace Equality Survey just completed indicates that more than 1 in every 3 women say they are not paid equally in comparison to others who hold the same position in their organization. Additionally, 1 in every 2 women believe they are not given the same opportunities as men. The survey results from more than 1400 respondents was timed to coincide with International Women’s Day on March 8th and was conducted by the American Management Association (AMA) Women’s Leadership Center, a division of AMA that offers women professional development. Responses were from both male and female, ranging from 18-65 years old with the majority being at a managerial level or higher spanning more than 11 industries.

Despite the fact that 54 percent of companies responding to the survey say they have an equal pay policy, the 1 in 3 women claim inequality in their pay. In addition, 72 percent of male responders believe men and women are given the same opportunities, while only 42 percent of women agree.

In announcing the results of this survey, Lauren McNally, Director of the AMA’s Women’s Leadership Center said: “The results of this survey, as well as the focus on International Women’s Day, point clearly the need to correct the imbalance in the workplace against women. The first step, given the disparity in the view of men versus women, is to educate all to the realization of the inequality of treatment of men and women workers. The next step is to empower women through effective professional development.”

In a related event, AMA Women’s Leadership Center is holding a sold out 1-day Connect, Learn and Thrive Professional Women’s meeting on March 7th at the AMA Executive Conference Center in New York City.
