The Case for AMA Management Certification

There are about 24 million managers in the U.S. workforce, and research suggests that there is great opportunity to improve their effectiveness—and the impact they make on business.

This problem may be due to the practice of promoting employees based on strong performance in an individual contributor role, not because they have the right set of knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics that will make them a great manager.

For this and other reasons, there is broad support, from both current managers and employers, for a certification process to recognize managers who have met the standard of management excellence.
