New York, NY, November 13, 2000Dan Bannister,
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of American Management Association,
announced today that Barry Lawson Williams has been appointed interim
President and CEO, succeeding Dr. George B. Weathersby who resigned to
pursue other opportunities. Dr. Weathersby will continue as a consultant
to AMA.
"We had asked George Weathersby to prepare AMA
for the new economy," said Mr. Bannister. "We thank George for
helping identify the changes which needed to be done and for taking the
initial steps to implement these changes."
The AMA Board will initiate a search for a permanent
president and CEO immediately with Board member William K. Slate chairing
the search committee.
Mr. Williams brings a wealth of business experience
to his position as interim President and CEO. Born in New York City, he
was raised in Westchester County, New York, and earned undergraduate,
law, and business degrees from Harvard University.
Mr. Williams spent seven years as a consultant with
McKinsey, several of those in Latin America. He then joined Bechtel, the
global engineering and construction firm, to help launch and manage their
investment program. For the past 14 years, he has run Williams Pacific
Ventures, a consulting and investment business based in San Francisco.
During this time, he has been CEO of a communications company and a specialty
construction services firm.
Mr. Williams has been a member of the AMA Board since
April, 1998. He also serves on the board of directors of several public
companies in the insurance, energy, and engineering fields.
"We are confident," said Mr. Bannister, "that
Barry Williams, working with the strong AMA management team currently
in place, will provide the leadership that will maintain AMAs position
as a global leader in management development and business education."
