NEW YORK, July 24, 2002American Management
Association (AMA) has received a $250,000 grant from Empire State Development
(ESD) to provide technical assistance services to small businesses in
lower Manhattan. AMAs Corporate Learning Services division will
provide training and development programs specifically for those businesses
south of 14th Street that have been affected by the World Trade Center
disaster on September 11. Programs will focus on strategic planning, marketing,
sales, finance and general business management.
“We are pleased to be working with Empire State
Development and those small business owners who are struggling in lower
Manhattan,” said Bob Fraulo, AMAs senior vice president, Corporate
Learning Services. “AMA has been a New York City-based institution
for more than 78 years and we welcome this opportunity to assist our fellow
businessmen and women by providing them with training and skills they
need to help rebuild their businesses in the downtown community.”
AMA is among 23 New York City-based institutions selected
to assist the city and state with implementing the services for this program.
These community-based and other service providers are available to small
businesses throughout the affected area and will offer a comprehensive
range of services. The Technical Assistance Program is part of the $700
million appropriation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“Small businesses are an important part of the
character and vitality of any community, but especially of lower Manhattan,”
said ESD Chairman Charles A. Gargano. “At this time, these businesses
need our support so they may move beyond these challenging times. Under
the leadership of Governor Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg, the State and City
have continued to reach out to the small business owners of lower Manhattan
to develop sensible and generous programs that will continue to help New
York City rebuild, recover and rebound from the horrible events of September
11.
