One-Day Diversity Workshop for Employees
Seminar # 67708
Overview
In the past, managing diversity was perceived strictly in terms of compliance in order to avoid lawsuits. Today, forward-thinking organizations are recognizing diversity as an important business issue, a way to create competitive advantage and new opportunities. Businesses realize that their success in new markets depends on employing workers who can relate to diverse cultures and consumers. A diverse, inclusive workplace environment that gives everyone the opportunity to succeed leads to a more motivated, loyal and innovative work force.
Product Description
This one-day workshop introduces employees to the concept of diversity and inclusion. To build their knowledge and awareness of difference, participants will take the Discovering Diversity Profile ® (Inscape Publishing), learn to interpret it, discuss results and complete an individual action plan.
Who Should Attend
All employees are suitable participants in the one-day employee workshop. Since this is an in-house program, limiting the level of employees attending any one session may lead to greater openness in discussions. However, this depends on your organization’s goals and culture. Vertical representation in the workshop can be very productive for driving understanding and change.
Benefits
By the end of the workshop, participants will gain the tools to:
- Recognize that inclusion of all employees is directly related to organizational competitiveness
- Understand how reactions to perceived differences can impact team performance in crucial business activities
- Assess their own attitudes and behaviors regarding diversity
- Plan immediate and long-term actions to change the inclusion atmosphere in their own groups
- Comprehend the impact of negative behavior on business results by one group or another
- Apply knowledge of perception research on their own behavior
- Analyze their own values, beliefs, biases and projections
- Synthesize the assessment and learning to develop personal action plans
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify their strengths and potential areas for development in how they perceive and work with people different from yourself
- Learn to apply the principles of diversity to improve innovation, creativity and teamwork in their organization
- Plan immediate and long-term actions, based on what they have learned, to make a real difference in achieving your organization’s business goals

Instructional Methods
During the one-day workshop, participants will take the Discovering Diversity Profile ® (Inscape Publishing) and view the video, Wealth, Innovation and Diversity . Further experiential activities include classroom discussions on perceptions and small group activities to demonstrate the impact of who we are and the nature of our current and past experiences. In addition, time will be spent to synthesize the day’s learning and create an individual action plan for implementation.
