Half-Day Diversity Workshop for Employees
Seminar # 67707
Overview
In the past, managing diversity was perceived strictly in terms of compliance in order to avoid lawsuits. Today, forward-thinking organizations are recognizing diversity as an important business issue, and that leveraging it can create competitive advantage and new opportunities. Businesses realize that their success in new markets depends on employing workers who can relate to diverse cultures and consumers. A diverse, inclusive workplace environment that gives everyone the opportunity to succeed leads to a more motivated, loyal and innovative work force.
Product Description
This half-day workshop introduces employees to the concept of diversity and inclusion. To build their knowledge and awareness of difference, participants will take the Discovering Diversity Profile ® (Inscape Publishing), learn to interpret it, discuss results and complete an individual action plan.
Who Should Attend
All employees are suitable participants in the half-day employee workshop. Since this is an in-house program, limiting the level of employees attending any one session may lead to greater openness in discussions. However, this depends on your organization’s goals and culture. Vertical representation in the workshop can be very productive for driving understanding and change. This half-day workshop may be integrated with your employee orientation program.
Benefits
By the end of the workshop, participants will gain the tools to:
- Understand the relationship between inclusion of all employees and organizational competitiveness
- See how reactions to perceived differences can impact team performance in crucial business activities
- Assess their own attitudes and behaviors regarding diversity
- Plan immediate and long-term actions to change the inclusion atmosphere in their own groups
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify their strengths and potential areas for development in how they perceive and work with people different from themselves
- Learn to apply the principles of diversity to improve innovation, creativity and teamwork in your organization
- Plan immediate and long-term actions, based on what they have learned, to make a real difference in achieving your organization’s business goals
Instructional Methods
During the half-day workshop, participants will hear a brief introductory lecture on the business reason for the workshop, define diversity in a group activity with flip charts, undergo a self-assessment profile and learn to interpret it, discuss the results and create an individual action plan.
