Overview
Diversity—“nice to have” or “business driver”?
You decide...
Last year, a study by Standard & Poor’s (S&P) and DiversityInc magazine, revealed that the “Top 50 Companies for Diversity” beat the Dow Jones Industrial Averages and the NASDAQ, remaining competitive with the S&P for a one-year period (Business for Social Responsibility Staff, 2005).
Today, more innovative organizations are recognizing diversity as an important business issue. The thinking is that to capture market share across many different markets, you need a workforce that can relate to diverse customer groups and cultures. Strategic management of diversity can drive innovation and create competitive advantage and new opportunities.
