Live online support extends learning beyond the classroom and provides instant solutions to real-world workplace challenges

target=_blank>American Management Association (AMA), a world leader in talent development and performance-based learning solutions, is offering live, one-on-one target=_blank>eCoaching services for its target=_blank>seminar participants to extend and reinforce learning beyond the classroom. This new online service supports AMA’s instructor-led classroom experience and further expands its target=_blank>blended-learning platform.

AMA has selected eSkillz, a provider of live application and performance support service, to provide on-demand eCoaching. The new service is designed to help AMA seminar participants apply what they learned in the classroom to the actual challenges they face when they are back at work.

“AMA continues to deliver and support learning using state-of-the-art technologies,” said Nicholas Igneri, AMA’s Director of Learning Technologies. “eCoaching allows learners to get access to a subject matter expert instantaneously—when and where they need it.”

Coaching, in general, has become a critical component in raising performance levels and developing talent. Recently, AMA and the Institute for Corporate Productivity took an in-depth look at coaching; of 1,030 managers and executives surveyed, 60 percent of companies that use coaches say they use them specifically to further develop high potential employees. Managers and other professionals take AMA seminars to learn new skills and improve their performance and productivity. Topics range from project management and strategic thinking to marketing, finance and general management. Through eSkillz, AMA will provide post-seminar access to certified subject-matter experts. In real time via an instant message chat window, the experts answer questions or clarify concepts related to the seminar subject matter, as well as give practical tips and advice on how to best utilize what was learned in the seminar.

“We believe this partnership enriches the already robust blended learning made available by American Management Association,” said Guy Hardcastle, Chief Operating Officer of eSkillz. “The partnership between AMA and eSkillz is yet another example of AMA’s commitment to take learning beyond the classroom, and we are pleased to be a part of it,” Hardcastle said.

The new eCoaching service is available for all AMA customized on-site seminars and is available to a select number of public programs in project management, finance and accounting. The service will be offered broadly in more subject areas in 2009.

In addition to eCoaching, AMA provides other blended-learning opportunities, including pre-seminar prep materials, online assessments, e-learning courses and virtual sessions, which allow organizations and individuals to measure the effectiveness of the training programs—helping to better demonstrate return on investment.
