Q. What is a Virtual Session?

A.  AMA virtual sessions are interactive and targeted learning events that are delivered using the Adobe Connect synchronous, webcasting tool. The purpose of a virtual session (VS) is to bring a group of learners together in a virtual environment, before or after the in-person learning seminar.  The specific goal(s) of the virtual session will be customized to meet the client's expectations.

Q. When would we use a Virtual Session?

A. A virtual session can be delivered at any stage prior to or following the in-person seminar.

Q. How Does a Virtual Learning session help me and my organization?

A.  Virtual sessions provide a more robust and continuous learning solution, but without travel costs and time away from work — since virtual sessions are 60 to 90 minutes and are very focused, they are an efficient use of time.  Some of the benefits include:

  • Provide a continuous learning environment
  • No travel costs for your organization to continue the learning
  • Less time away from work – virtual sessions are a focused and efficient use of time
  • Less costs to gather learners back into a learning environment
  • Provide remote learners an opportunity to participate in learning events
  • Brings learning back into the Workplace
  • Ensure knowledge transfer and application of skills on the job

Q. I’m looking for a more robust learning solution but can’t afford my staff to be out of the office for long.

A.  Virtual sessions provide a more robust and continuous learning solution, but without travel costs and time away from work — since VS are 60 to 90 minutes and focused, they are an efficient use of time.

Q. Can we connect before or after a session without travel expenses?

A.  Yes.  There is no travel required to set up a virtual session or in actually executing a virtual session—you can connect a group of learners together with a subject matter expert before and/or after the in-person seminar without them having to leave the office.

Q. What are examples of types of virtual sessions?

A.  AMA can customize a virtual session to meet your organization’s specific learning needs.  Below are some examples of virtual sessions:

Before the In-person Seminar
A virtual session in the pre-seminar phase can be used in multiple ways to kick-off the instructor-led event, and it affords the learner’s a chance to have direct access to a subject matter expert and interaction with their fellow learners prior to the seminar.

After the In-person Seminar
Upon completion of the in-person seminar, virtual sessions can be used in a number of beneficial ways.  Currently, our VS model includes the following virtual follow-up session options:

1. Content Reinforcement
During the interactive Content Reinforcement virtual support session, the instructor may review the seminar’s most challenging material, approaching it from a new and different angle, and including fresh examples and context. If applicable, seminar post-test results, evaluation inputs, or both can dictate the area of focus for any Content Reinforcement virtual support session.

2. Knowledge/Skills Application
During the interactive Knowledge/Skills Application virtual support session, learners apply their new knowledge and skills to actual examples from their job, or in scenarios that they may experience on the job. Learners leave this application session ready use their new knowledge and skills at work. If applicable, seminar post-test results, evaluation inputs, or both dictate the area of focus for the session.

3. Extension of Content
An extension of content, virtual session is modeled to introduce new topics that are not necessarily covered during the instructor-led seminar. These virtual learning sessions enable the instructor (subject matter expert) to provide participants a deeper dive into issues/topic areas that are important to your organization that go beyond the information covered during live training.

Q. How can you help ensure learning and application of skills back on the job?

A.  Virtual learning sessions help to bring the learning and skills right into the workplace, where application takes place. Through a virtual session, learning content is reinforced and methods and scenarios on how to apply the knowledge at work can be used.

Q. How are virtual sessions delivered?

A.  Virtual learning sessions are delivered via a Webcast.  AMA uses Adobe Connect as the tool to deliver our Virtual sessions. All you need is an Internet connection and browser to access the virtual environment.

Voice can be handled either via a teleconference bridge or voice of internet protocol (VOIP) VOIP is a fast moving tool to allow voice over to be carried over the internet.  If a Client wants to use VOIP the proper headsets are necessary for the Learner.

Q. Does everyone have to be in the same place to participate in a virtual session?

A.  No. The great part of virtual learning via a Webcast is that the participants can be in any location in which they have access to a computer, Web access and a telephone to hear the audio.

Q. How long do virtual sessions last?

A.  That depends on the material that needs to be covered.  Generally, they are between 60 to 90 minutes long.

Q. What is the relationship between virtual sessions and
AMA’s Blended Learning initiative?
